Beach Party for Retrofest

Downtown Chatham Centre is where its at for this year’s Retrofest. For this highly anticipated Retrofest, Downtown Chatham Centre is transforming the commons into a wild beach party – complete with sand!

Your beach party weekend will start with cool sand on your toes, warm evening breeze on your face and great music filling your soul. On Friday evening the Michael Schatte Band will be kicking off the “Concerts on the Commons” summer concert series. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy one of Canada’s guitar prodigies while watching the RetroFest Car Cruise on King Street.

The beach party will continue all day Saturday with activities that will have something for everyone in the family.

The creative ones will enjoy the sidewalk chalk, all the goods to make sand castles and face painting outside on King Street Commons. Sponsored by Downtown Chatham Centre
The crafty ones will have a blast with Ella Minnow Pea’s party coaches as they help little ones with a dino craft. Sponsored by Ella Minnow Pea
The nostalgic ones will be taken back to their youth with A&W’s famous Root Beer Float stand. Sponsored by A&W
The artsy ones will be inspired by the student car themed art projects on display. Sponsored by RM Auctions
The innovative ones can try luck at the naming Chatham’s first double decker food truck with the “Name That Bus Downtown” contest
The fashionable ones will stock up with over 30 stores highlighting the hottest summer trend inside Downtown Chatham Centre
The hungry ones can take a break from walking around outside and eat at one of the 5 restaurants located inside.

Music will flow from King Street Commons

There will be new sounds flowing through Downtown Chatham over the summer. Starting May 24 the launch of “Concerts on the Commons” will take place on King Street Commons from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. every Friday night. This is a free concert series initiative taken on by Downtown Chatham Centre to promote local talent and give the community something to do on Friday evenings.

To get this event up and running Downtown Chatham Centre needs to find eager musicians & talent who would like to participate. The concerts are a great opportunity for artists looking to get experience performing on stage, gain some valuable exposure within the community and build a supportive fan base. Interested parties are asked to email jaclyn@downtownchathamcentre.ca info on who they are, a sample of their work, (or link to where one can be heard) and list which Fridays will work best for them.

Mom You’re Awesome Shopping Spree contest

Saturday, May 4, 2013: Saturday, Downtown Chatham Centre has something fun for families set up inside the community circle. Moms with children (young & old) are encouraged to step into the photo booth for some Mother’s Day laughs.

All participants will walk away with a free keepsake photo and a chance to win the “Mom You’re Awesome Shopping Spree” contest. There are two chances to win: a traditional name draw and a People’s Choice prize where the winner will be determined by votes on Downtown Chatham Centre’s Facebook page.

Skating season has come to a close

With warmer weather just around the corner; the Perry Molema Memorial Skating Rink will be shutting down for spring. Downtown Chatham Centre wants to thank the community for their support in using the rink and hope that everyone had a great time creating new skating memories on the ice. It was an incredible first season with an overwhelming positive reaction from the public – both young and old.

Downtown Chatham Centre would also like to recognize the generous donations of children’s skates by Playback Sports Equipment, Bill Lodwwegan, Value Village and various private citizens. Throughout the winter break over 200 pairs of donated skates were handed out to children wanting to play on the ice.

Hearts are Melting at Downtown Chatham Centre

Starting February 8, Downtown Chatham Centre and Charm Diamond Centres want you to guess how long it will take to melt their heart for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Located in front of Charm Diamond Centres inside the Downtown Chatham Centre will be a large heart shaped ice sculpture with an embedded jewel inside. The public is encouraged to guess how long it will take to expose the jewel for a chance to win an amazing a pair of diamond earrings worth over $1,200.

A simple donation of $2 per guess will enter you into this contest where 100% off the funds raised will go directly to the Heart & Stroke to help improve the quality of life in our community.

Winner will be announced Tuesday, February 12 – just in case someone was hoping to surprise their loved for Valentine’s Day. (Winner will be determined by the closest guess to when the jewel is 1/3 exposed)
